Community Assistance for Forestland Conservation and Management

Forestland provides many benefits to landowners, but also to communities. Landowners directly realize timber, wildlife and recreational values, while the benefits of watershed protection, clean air and scenic beauty are enjoyed by society at large.  The Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) supports cities, towns, and communities across the Commonwealth to promote and encourage forestland conservation and sustainable forest management on a community, county and city level. Communities and local governments are faced with decisions that impact the balancing of built and rural environments while improving the quality of life for residents and visitors.

Managing forest resources can sometimes be a complex undertaking. VDOF community assistance programs provide professional forestry assistance to help communities and localities to protect, conserve, and manage forest resources.

A variety of financial assistance programs are available through VDOF and partner agencies.
