All forestland and natural resources are essential to the citizens of Virginia regardless of ownership making it crucial that we, as a Commonwealth, take an all-agency, all-organization approach to managing the forests and natural resources of Virginia. Wildfires, insects, and diseases know no boundaries… all agencies must work together to protect and manage forestlands.
While Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) focuses much effort on working with private landowners and their forestland, VDOF also has a role in assisting with forest management on other state-owned lands and federally-owned lands.
Through the State-Owned Lands Program and cooperative agreements, VDOF assists other agencies with forest management planning, harvest planning and coordination, tree planting, and more.
